$60,000 3/8 DERBY FINALIST
The Blake & Black kennel will enter the $60,000 3/8 Mile Derby with three entries. BOW LAIDTHELAW, O YA PATCH and O YA DASHER. The Bean & Stout kennel will enter the finals with two entries, ASTAR DOMINO and ASTAR FLOWER. This could have easily read the other way around with Blake & Black two entries and Bean & Stout three entries. Greyhounds O YA DASHER and A STAR SILVER tied in points however the tie-breaker rules to make the finals are most 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on, in the 3/8 Mile Derby qualifying rounds. This gave O YA DASHER the nod to make the finals.

3/8 MILE DERBY DOWN TO 24

by Mark Pendgraft 6/25/08

With the heat index of 95 and the greyhounds racing over the 679 yard course, the Quarter-Finals would test the greyhounds athletic abilities.

The first two rounds of the $60,000 3/8 Mile Derby, the Plum Creek Kennel struggled on getting wins, with only one winner. However the Quarter-Finals were very good to the Plum Creek Kennel. U CHECKIN ME OUT won a very tough race, beating two undefeated greyhounds in the 3/8 Mile Derby, ASTAR FLOWER and O YA PATCH. To be able to pull off a victory in a tough field show that if U CHECKIN ME OUT can make it to the finals she could win. It was just the opposite for TRIP IS ON. The race she won was against a weak field, however a win is a win. TRIP IS ON will need help just to make it to the finals and if she does will need a lot of help in the finals to pull off a victory.

A new Sheriff is in town, BOW LAIDTHELAW! He has clearly made a statement in the first three rounds of the $60,000 3/8 Mile Derby. BOW LAIDTHELAW has “laid the law” and looks unbeatable. He has won the first three rounds by an average of 7 lengths, and has earned enough to make the finals, however BOW LAIDTHELAW must still run in the Semi-Finals. BOW LAIDTHELAW is out of (Dodgem by Design – Bow Moneybags) and is owned by Neal Blake and currently races for the Blake & Black Kennel.

BE MY LIL PUNKIN made a good move against NMS LOOSE CANNON, shutting her off going into the far turn. With this move BE MY LIL PUNKIN was able to hold off any pressure. This was BE MY LIL PUNKINS second win in a row. With 40 points she should be in the finals and she will make the finals an interesting race. NMS LOOSE CANNON finished third, this is typical if she gets cut off. Don’t count out NMS LOOSE CANNON just because she had some trouble in one race. She can still make the finals.

During the Quarter-Finals the weather was clear but you could still hear thunder, RUMBLING THUNDER. He broke on top and went box to wire to pick up a win during the Quarter-Finals, however the race was a weak race and he will still need a lot of help to make the finals.
