A Celebration of the Life of
    Randy Allen Montgomery
    March 4,1962
    March 12, 2011

Randy was the third of 3 children born to Adaline and Wilber Montgomery. Randy was born in Lebanon OR. and moved to Portland when he was about 4 years old.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother and father, of Portland and Council Bluffs. He is survived by one sister Janice of Portland one brother Darrell of Council Bluffs and one nephew Shawn of Portland.
Randy had a GREAT love for animals and became a greyhound fan when he was just a small child. Randy told  Steve Sigafoose in an interview when Randy was named Trainer of The Year in 1995 . That “When I was 10 years old . I use to sneak into the track in Portland. I liked the excitement and have been watching them every since.”  Getting into training also started in Portland . Randy was working in food service at Multnomal Kennel Club when he met a few greyhound people and one thing led to another and in 1989 he started working with the dogs and ended up in Waterloo IA then went to Dubuque. From Dubuque it was off to Florida. Then in 1991 Joe Lent called him and asked him to go to St Croix Meadows in Hudson WI for The  River Bluffs Kennel . In 1992 he came to Bluffs Run with RB and worked here until his death.
Randy had great success at Bluffs Run . Winning the Iowa Breeders Classic in 1995 with Sally Uhl and in 1997 with Noble Titan. He was also named Trainer of the Year in 1995. Here’s another quote from the Steve Sigafoose article. “Randy Montgomery , Bluffs Run’s Trainer of the Year sounds like a coach when talking about his business. TEAMWORK AND  CONSISTENCY” is the answer. Randy also pointed out in that same interview that GOOD HELPERS WERE A MUST and he had one of the best in Cathy Kelly. She deserves this award as much as I do.
More recently he had 2 ALL AMERICAN‘s, NMS SWEET THING in 2008 and  TEN FOR TEE in 2009. Randy always had a couple of favorites. Way too many to even start to list.
Refering back to that Steve Sigafoose article again Randy pointed out that he would like to be the #1 kennel some day and though he came close several times. That dream never came true.
Randy had 3 cats at home his favorite being BARRETT and for many years. He had OLE BLACK DOG that he had to put down just last year.
I thought that well done roast beef with  potatoes and carrots and homemade mashed potato rolls was his favorite food after I had him over to my house many  years ago and that is what he always asked Vickie to make for him . He even asked me about 6 weeks ago if I thought Vickie would cook up one of those good old meals and Fed Ex it to him, but talking to some of his friends . I found out that he also loved his Mother’s cooking and Chinese Food was also one of his favorites.
There are many stories about Randy and his dogs and cats floating around.
Randy’s Friends have decide to start a memorial fund at the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter. If we collect $500 in his name they will name one of the kennels in his memory.
